Just got a Nokia N85
Just got my hands on my new Nokia N85.
First impressions and a couple more pictures, after the break.
I really like how “neat” the phone looks.
Plus the OLED screen uses a lot less power than normal LED screens, and stays lit in power saving mode. This is really useful because you can always just glance at your phone’s screen to know what time or date it is, without having to unlock it to do so.
By “neat” I mean, for example, the cluster of keys on the top slider look very minimalistic and most of them, dont show untill you unlock the device to use it.
The N85 charges by MicroUSB only, so it doesnt have a Nokia charging port, and is the first Nokia phone to come with the new Nokia MicroUsb charger. The top of the device has the MircoUSB port, the standard 3.5mm audio jack, and the power button, with an inlet for a lanyard cable at the end.
The bottom of the device is completely empty of any such ports, which contributes to the whole “neat” look.
The left side of the Nokia N85 has the MicroSD slot. The N85 comes with an 8GB MicroSD, so you’ll have plenty of space to fill up.
The right side of the device has the standard N-Series Zoom in/out key which doubles as a volume increase/decrease key. In the center is the Keypad lock slid key, which is positioned beautifully for right handed people. Way better than its location on the N96. You also have the dedicated camera key, and the stereo loudspeakers present at either ends of the side.
The Audio/multimedia/gaming keys on the dual slide of the N85 are a lot smarter than the ones on the N96. They only light up whichever function is needed, as opposed to on the N96, when they were all lit up. For example when you slide open the multimedia keys, only the play/pause and stop button are lit up. When you’re in the music player, these buttons in addiction to rewind and fast forward buttons light up. When you’re in an N-gage game, these keys change to gaming keys.
The back of the device has the 5Megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, with dual LED flash and a camera lens protector.
I really would have liked a xenon flash instead of that Dual LED, but no major complaints otherwise.
So basically what do I think ?
I think the Nokia N85 feels like more of a flagship than the N96. The build is solid, the size is perfect, the firmware seems to be alot faster and more stable, there’s a camera lens cover and the postion of the various keys around the device is (mostly) perfect. Plus that O-LED screen is gorgeous.
Highly recommended.
Stay tuned for the review and more on the Nokia N85 in the coming weeks !

I go an question to ask,Does the slider wobble?
Its pretty solid but it does wobble just a tiny tiny little bit. Not very noticeable though.
