Nokia announces Nokia N79 "Active" With Bluetooth WearLink heart rate Belt

Earlier today, Nokia announced the Nokia N79 “Active”. The device comes with a Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt from the Polar company and the Nokia CP-324 elastic armband. The elastic heart rate belt has a small heart rate monitor attached to it, which communicates with your phone using Nokia’s Sports Tracker software. Using this application, your device records your heart rate, among a bunch of other information.

SportsTracker is a brilliant bit of software, that tracks your route via GPS, and keeps a tab on the music you listen to on your device or the photos/videos you take during your exercise. You can upload all this data to the SportsTracker website to let others have a look at it, or keep it private if only you want access to that info.

The Nokia N79 Active looks pretty much the same as the regular N79, but there’s no word on whether this package will make its way here to India. The package is said to be priced at EUR375 (approx Rs 24,000) not including tax.

But do you need to buy the phone too?

There are other BlueTooth heart rate (speed and distance too) devices out there:

True that. Looks like only selected ones from the Polar company are supported for now though.
