Nokia 5800 XpressMusic gets a Firmware update to version 20.0.012

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic just got a firmware update to version 20.0.012 . Its previous firmware was v11.0.009.

The 5800 does have UDP (User Data Preservation), so while its always a good idea to backup all your data before the firmware update, none of your programs or data should be affected with the update.

I updated using the 5800′s OTA (Over-The-Air) feature, but you can still download Nokia’s Software Updater application to update your 5800 on your windows PC.

There’s no actual changelog out yet, but I’ve noticed that screen rotation and overall operation is a bit faster. You can also activate and use the front camera at any time now. There’s also now (finally) Photo AND Video Geo-Tagging support.

Picture and Video quality seem to be slightly improved.  There’s new Icons for the Music Folder, Download! and Podcasting Applications among others too. Another noticeable thing is there’s a new “Application running” icon to let you know if a certain application in the menu is still open in the background. No doubt a couple bugs have been fixed in this update too.

Update : Flash content also has a Dpad on screen now :

Hi! Where is this update already available? I’m currently in the Philippines and as I’ve tried to update my firmware, it confirms with Nokia that there is no update available yet. How come? Does this only apply for several areas at the meantime?

  6. Clinton Jeff says:

    Hey there Mike !
The update is currently out for the Euro and APAC product codes, although it should be available for all regions in the coming weeks. Keep in mind that if your handset is carrier branded, it might take a longer while for it to get an update.

  7. Mike says:

Thanks for the info! I guess my unit is not carrier branded because I bought it directly from a Nokia Store. But I’m still longing for that firmware update.
