Ovi Maps v3 gets Final Beta Update : Adds in Touch Support
The application formerly known as Nokia Maps, Ovi Maps v3 has received another Update. Nokia Betalabs is saying this might be their final update in Beta, before Ovi Maps v3 Graduates out of the Beta Phase.
The update works on all Symbian S60 v3 devices (Fp1 and Fp2) and now works on S60 v5 devices (like the Nokia 5800, N97) too. About time Nokia !
The new features include :
- Additional features such as weather information, safety spot warners in selected countries, extended country coverage for traffic info service and premium POI’s (Point of Interest) content for travel, selected events and cinema
- New maps data version
- Quicker zooming & panning
- New “Shop & Licenses” format
- Also, a number of fixes and enhancements onto both Maps Updater and Map Loader have also been implemented – with Maps Updater supporting 21 different languages
- Last but not least, many bugs have been fixed!
Unfortunately you still have to use Nokia’s annoying “Maps Updater” application (which is currently for windows only) to install this on your device. Hopefully someone will be able to pull out the .sis installation file soon for the rest of y’all.

So this means cj that when ovi maps 3 come out of beta we have to install it over nokia maps 2.0 to update?

Ovi Maps Beta v3.04 was released into the wild at the end of the last month, and now the guys over at Nokia Beta Labs have announced that a series of improvements were included in the package, and that an updated version of the software solution is available for download. The new flavor is being delivered only as a minor update, but there are a series of bug fixes included in it that should enhance the user experience. http://www.cdmacellulars.com
Among the novelties included in the updated Ovi Maps Beta v3.04, we can count the inclusion of a new “positioning” feature with the application, and the replacement of the “GPS indicator bar” at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
