Office on the Nokia E72
Nokia’s Eseries devices are positioned to be all about the ‘Business‘, and making your job easier. Ironically I got mine the day I started my new job in Delhi.
Here’s a little bit about the Office features on the Nokia E72.
Press the ‘Menu’ key (aka ‘Home’ key) on the E72, and you’ll be presented with icons arranged in a grid pattern. One of which, is the ‘Office’ Folder Icon.
Nokia’s purposely put this icon right at the root of the menu, to signify that this is an Eseries Device, and it means business. On Nseries Devices, the Office folder is located inside the Application Folder, and isnt top-tiered like it is in Eseries.
Click the Office Icon and you’re taken to the following folder.
There’s a File Explorer, Dictionary (which I also use as a English-to-Hindi Translator), QuickOffice (which opens up Excel, Word, Powerpoint or PDF files), converter (between currency and various metric values), Font Magnifier, Calculator, Notes, Multiscanner (to scan business cards, etc), Zip manager, Adobe PDF reader, and an Advanced Notes app.
Obviously since the E72 runs on Symbian S60v3 (FP2) you can install a lot more apps to do all sorts of other things, but this is what’s in the Office Folder when you first start up the E72.
It’s also worth mentioning that the E72 has about 250mb of Internal Phone memory, and ships with an 8GB (depending on your region) microSD card, so you’ll have plenty of space to store your files, and take them with you on the go.
Note: We’ve installed a couple apps (and have a couple music tracks and videos on our microSD card), so the total free space on each drive when you first start up the E72 might be different from our screenshot above.
You can also plug in and use your E72 as a kind-of portable usb storage device of sorts, so that’s helpful.
The Dictionary app is particularly useful for me. Not because it works as a…dictionary, but because it can also be used as a Translator of sorts. I use it to help me out with Hindi here in Delhi.
The E72 also ships with version 5.3 of QuickOffice, which is basically the “Mobile Office” app.
Worth mentioning that you have a free upgrade to the latest version of QuickOffice (version 6), by going into the “Upgrade” section.
You can use it to open up your Excel, Word, Powerpoint or PDF files. Since it’s the full version of QuickOffice you can both view and choose to edit your files, or create new ones.
You just have to start up QuickOffice, navigate to where you stored or saved your files, and open them up.
Your files will be identified by type, by the icon displayed.
By default, your files are opened up in “View” mode, but you can switch to “Edit” mode easily enough.
Word Documents : (.doc and .docx , etc)
Powerpoint : (.ppt, etc)
Excel : (.xls, etc)

Also, thanks to the 600Mhz cpu on the E72, and it’s 128mb of ram (out of which about 46-ish Mb is available at startup), documents open pretty fast, and there isnt any waiting between navigating through slides in powerpoint, or columns & rows in Excel, etc.
Is the E72 a business machine ? Totally ! As you can see, its more than equipped to be your Mobile Office. I’m pretty new to the world of Excel Sheets and PPT’s but it’s helped me out a lot when I wasnt near a PC.
You can take a look at a short video we made on “Office on the E72” and the applications we’ve talked about today, embedded below :

@ Cj , can you also create/edit ppt in upgraded Quickoffice 6?
Yup, the upgrade is still full version for Eseries :)
there's no obvious difference bteween this and the E71, w/ respecto to Office-capabilities …. strange?
Not really, no. The E72 opens documents and multitasks faster thanks to its 600Mhz cpu but software wise the Office offerings are basically the same.
Great upgrade in Nokia E72 is the latest version Quick office pre-installed . Quick Office 6 will enable E72 users to open and edit Microsoft office documents like Word 2007 ,Excel 2007 and PowerPoint 2007 ….
