Ovi Maps Racing now out on Ovi Store (And Free for a Limited Time)
Remember when we mentioned Nokia’s new Ovi Maps Racing game ?
Yeah, well it’s now released and available on the Ovi Store.
And Free for a limited Time !
Honestly, we thought this game would be free (as in, permanently) but it looks like Nokia might charge for it later.
We installed it on our N97 Mini and it worked pretty well. The whole “Race in your Neighbourhood” thing seems kinda cool (but apparently this feature isnt available out of Europe ?).

With Ovi Maps Racing, the first location-based mobile game by Nokia, players can navigate and access their location, create a track and race around the block.
Utilizing actual map data by NAVTEQ and the GPS technology of the mobile device, Ovi Maps Racing allows players to create a racing track out of their own physical location, whether at home or in the office *). Racing is experienced with easy and enjoyable touch controls and there are three racing cars to choose from.
Developed by RedLynx, a leading developer of connected games for handheld consoles and mobile phones, Ovi Maps Racing is available for download in Ovi Store for all Nokia touch screen devices based on Symbian^1, such as the Nokia N97 mini and the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition.
“We had a chance to create a completely new type of mobile game with Nokia, which utilizes real life maps” says Tero Virtala, CEO of RedLynx. “As with previous titles developed for Nokia, Ovi Maps Racing has really allowed us to augment our knowledge pool.”
In addition to creating tracks based on their location, players can race in offline mode and customize tracks within the available in-game maps. The game also includes 20 pre-defined tracks with global high scores in well-known European cities – such as Berlin, Amsterdam and London.
The International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA) has shortlisted Ovi Maps Racing as a nominee in the category of “Excellence in Gameplay”. Winners will be announced at the IMG Awards Ceremony at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain on February 15, 2010.
